In many cases, it is the police firing on civilians when the rioting begins, not the other way around. There have been pictures and videos, only a fraction of which I've seen, of people cleaning up at their communities in the mornings after protest. In one case I had read about--I'm not digging this up by the way--an undercover cop infiltrated the protesters, got called out, and drew his gun and aimed it at everyone. The problem is not the people who came to protest against police brutality, but the police who show up in raid gear to start a fight. It's the same nonsense as when police or military show up, fully armed, to deal with Native Americans trying to defend their homes via non-violent protests. And yet, look back a few weeks ago, and the police did nothing but stand and take verbal abuse from belligerent, armed folks who didn't want to stay home where it was safe. They did nothing as those protesters blocked transit for medical workers or corona patients seeking aide. This is a poor double standard.
