Humphrey: Bishops tend to have long lives. Apparently the Lord isn't all that keen for them to join Him.

Dean: It's such an awful country. They cut peoples' hands off and women get stoned when they commit adultery.
Humphrey: Unlike Britain, where they commit adultery when they get stoned.

Hacker: I don't want Canon Stanford. What am I to do?
Humphrey: Well, you could turn both candidates down, but that would be exceptional and not advised.
Hacker: Even though one of them wants to get god out of the Church and the other wants to get the Queen out?
Humphrey: But the Queen is inseparable from the Church of England.
Hacker: I see... What about god?
Humphrey: I think He's what's called an optional extra.
