Don't read these spoilers if you haven't read the manga: the tone is almost never grim, always hopeful. There's some graphic violence, slightly gratuitous, but nothing close to Berserk or Gantz. The images are really pretty tame and even if the plot is dark the story is hopeful. Maybe this is personal taste.
