Herd immunity means that a disease can barely spread because a large portion of the population is immune (either via vaccine or because they already had the disease).

(This is why getting vaccinated affects not just you personally, but also the people who cannot get vaccinated for various health reasons.)

When it comes to Covid, herd immunity may eventually be a thing, but it's not a reasonable end goal under the current circumstances. Aiming for herd immunity means you just don't give a damn and let everyone get infected, which means the healthcare system is going to get overwhelmed, which means a lot of people will die (this is not a hypothetical scenario, it's something that has happened in multiple countries, e.g. Italy).

Edit: If there was a vaccine, you could just give that to everyone and achieve herd immunity that way - but it's gonna take a while till there is one.
