Even in the animated movie Jasmine was all about being more than some shut-in princess (sneaking out of the palace, "I am not some prize to be won," etc.). It doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to give her a feminist slant.

The issue isn't the feminist slant, it's the ridiculously forced song played at a ludicrously stupid time and as a reaction to a villain's order which had less to do with her status as a woman than it did with his status as a villain. It wasn't a matter of "Be quiet because you're a woman and your voice doesn't matter," it was "Be quiet because I'm taking over right now." (iirc it was right when he was locking the Sultan and Jasmine up.)

On the flipside, if they *had* to insert a feminist anthem, there were a lot of places where it might actually make sense -- sneaking out to see the city when she could have sang about freedom, after abandoning a suitor when she could have complained about her role in society, etc.
