This is due to his narcissism and that he has been a hermit for the past decade. Because he only leaves his house a few days per year, he doesn't experience life like an average person would, he has no social interactions, no positive or negative events. And his narcissim doesn't allow him to see beyond himseld. So in his mind it is absolutely true that Tevin is the worst person on earth, because it negatively affects Phil, or so he believes. This is why Phil has burned bridges with anyone and everyone who is no longer if use to him.
