2.2 million isn't worst case. It's average case. It's what happens if people do nothing, which tends to be happening in a lot of states. A lot of factors at play there too. For example the US is very ripe for a pandemic to spread and not prepared in the slightest. Some areas will be worse than others.

As far as numbers jumping, the US average is the number will double every 2 days. Don't be surprised when we shoot up to 2000 tomorrow.

Eh, the virus has an r0 of 4 days but it looks like people are reporting 2-5 days. Just a clarification.
