They aren't strong enough to hurt you, and usually good eaters. The various rat snakes are good beginners as well, but they are much less interactive. They constantly move, and many of them will musk or shit on you. I may be biased, but I am not a fan of them. Hell, I would recommend a hognose over almost any rat snake, and those ARE mildly venomous.maybe i was projecting a bit. last pythons i handled were reticulated python at a local zoo while acting as a volunteer handler, and it was a god damn nightmare. before that the biggest snake i ever handled was a king snake, but being stuck alone in a room with a hissing ~15 foot snake left a bad impression... --- Taarsidath-an halsaam.
