It's not really copyright douchery, because a) it's a trademark issue, not copyright, and b) someone else literally used that name for years, and was still actively using it at the time. Basically the same reason you can't open a diner and call it the Mickey Mouse Cafe. Ironically, it's also why Dragon Quest couldn't be called Dragon Quest in the US (because this was a thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DragonQuest ).
