Parents are expected to kick their children out in the cold when they technically become adults at 18. It's probably started as a way to get more people to buy houses or something and it just continued and became a cultural norm. Plus add in some toxic masculinity ("Grrr I'm an independent manly man who needs no help!" "Ugh, you still live with your parents? What a loser!") and there you go.
