Okay, so FE3H.

Gameplay-wise, it is definitely interesting to be able to use any weapon you want with any class with careless abandon. And even class change is actually determined by weapon proficiency rather than the other way around. It really changed up the way I approached weapon usage.

However, it does make the classes feel less unique. Since access to different weapons was one of the biggest deciding factors in choosing which class promotion to take in previous FE games.

The battles are...alright, I guess. Though more unique win conditions would have been welcome. The Normal difficulty is so easy (especially later on) that I didn't really have to put much thought during battles. I rarely use Gambits since the game's easy enough without them, but it does add another option in battles.

Skill and Combat Arts customization are...fine. Though some are definitely worth more than others. I never used any heavy knights nor falcon knights throughout the game nor did I feel the need to. Might give them a whirl next playthrough though!

For me personally, where the gameplay came short was the full month of preparation. There just isn't enough interesting things to do during exploration. Could've stolen a page or two from Suikoden's book and have more mini-games, bonus content, or side quests to tide you over. By the last few months I was dreading having to go through the Exploration phase since it was just same old, same old.

The thing about having animated cut scenes is that the devs can't really have a lot of leeway in including other characters than Byleth and the House Leader (since they might've died). So we can't see the other members of the army who've been there throughout our journey.

Character-wise, it's pretty solid! A lot of likeable and memorable characters (at least in the Golden Deer house). The supports are also interesting, though, like the animated cutscenes, they can't include other members of the cast.

Though I do want to play the game again to see what it has to offer, the length and chore of getting through a month of preparation before each battle kinda puts me off it for now. Maybe in a couple weeks or months time I'll be in the mood!
