It seems like it's just a more dangerous version of the cold and most cases are just as harmless, to the point of being invisible to the governments. So the real chance of death might be far smaller than 1%, as long as your immunity system is not a wreck. The issue is it spreads super fast, so it can easily reach those vulnerable people and swiftly overwhelms hospitals, infecting their staff.
