These days I think of Xbox consoles kind of like a cheap soundbar vs. a legit sound system for your home.

Sure, to an enthusiast who's fine with spending a bunch of dosh and pouring in extra effort, that cheap soundbar has absolutely no appeal and really no reason to exist.

But plenty of folks (a majority!) don't want to/can't spend the money for the higher-end system, don't care to put in the effort and perhaps aren't even bothered by the quality difference to begin with! Some folks just want to get something easy and have it work. I'm definitely not about that life, but I "get it."

And frankly I respect Microsoft for opening up their platform to the point that people aren't trapped on one specific piece of hardware. I continue to be frustrated with Sony's hostage-taking approach of keeping their consoles relevant, though it would appear even they're potentially going to loosen up on that front in the very near future.
