| Kamekguy 02/09/20 8:04:59 PM #374: | I've always felt that Chrono Trigger is weird in that normal encounters kinda just felt like time wasters to grind up TP in a majority of circumstances; most bosses pre-Black Omen are set up so that whatever sexy new Party Member you got will probably roll them, but there's at least still a level of engagement there and the spectacle is top-notch. Most of CT's strength as an RPG relies on the Ocean Palace and beyond, and it just feels so odd that it's such a late bloomer of an RPG in that sense, but the presentation is so top-notch and the pacing so brisk it rarely feels like it. Definitely one I appreciated more on replay than on first playthrough. Absolutely ahead of its time, though.
