$300 to dry a carpet after a water damage? jesus christ seriously just buy a new carpet or let it dry yourself ffs
The house fixing prices are even more ridiculous. $3000 for one-two hours work. And it's not a scam or something, they are willingly paying and even sometimes leave a tip

$300 to take care of carpeting is nothing. The last time I carpeted a place it cost over $2000. If were talking $300 for a full carpet cleaning that's a fair price. If we're talking like a Persian rug then those things can be $10,000 dollars and $300 is nothing to clean that.

The reason why those kind of prices are fair is because specialists have the know-how and tools to do it well. For the vast majority of people doing it yourself will take much longer, it won't be done as well, and you might even make it worse. Most people don't want to waste that time and money just to have someone come fix it for them anyway, especially since that's probably going to give the professionals reason to charge even more.
