Snake had inferior genes and wiped the floor with Liquid who had superior genes like 7 times regardless. The entire moral of the end of MGS1 was that genes don't determine who you are.

Solidus was a chubby middle aged gray haired politician who needed Doc Oc arms because he was useless in a fight without them.

You're making excuses because you like the character
