Elim Garak (Deep Space Nine)
Elim Garak (Deep Space Nine)
A brilliant, Machiavellian piece of why Deep Space Nine succeeded in creating an entirely new form of narrative for Star Trek, Garak is a classic example of the deceptive appearances so necessary in creating great skulduggery in an extended series. The layers one can peel back, both narratively and ethically, from Garak prove that even a secondary supporting star can provide a profound amount of depth to a series.

Daphne (Scooby-Doo)
Daphne Blake (Scooby-Doo)
I imagine that I am no different from other children of the world, not quite understanding the draw and attraction of Daphne to an elementary schooler. And yet, I was drawn to Daphne's charm at a young age. As an adult, of course, Scooby-Doo is really nothing but banal mystery training for children to young to really dive into the deep end of the genre, but I respect the attempts of the writers to introduce one of the more thought-intensive genres of storytelling in a simple way.

Jafar (Aladdin)
Jafar (Aladdin)
Probably one of the greatest defenders of the common man, Jafar risked his profession and his very life trying to overthrow the incompetent family that led Agrabah from glory to squalor, resting on their laurels in lavish palaces and lush gardens as the children outside starved. Too bad for Jafar that the princess seduced the one clever peasant that could have helped lead the revolution and enticed him into the palace with her feminine wiles, leaving the kingdom doomed to starve in the heat.

Roronoa Zoro (One Piece)
Roronoa Zoro (One Piece)
I'm roughly 100 episodes into One Piece, and Zoro stands heads and shoulders above the rest of the cast. A classic mix of Clint Eastwood and Errol Flynn, the unique brand of fighting and the rough, driving personal mission pushes Zoro into a role I enjoy. I wouldn't say he's the best written character in the world or anything, but I like him well enough.

Ratchet
Ratchet (Ratchet and Clank)
Another average star of a PlayStation staple. While the humor in Ratchet and Clank is often quite amusing, it generally never rises to the level of even a simply above-average television series. As such, I have a hard time thinking of Ratchet as anything except a character catering to casual audiences. I just need something... deeper, I guess.
