I don't dislike the film but its a straightforward, not too challenging 6/10 crowd pleaser. The idea that it was the best of the year is absurd. I think people judging it got caught up in the apparent positivity of it.

Yeah I think Yr completely right here. When stuff like the irishman and marriage story isn't getting that overall award buzz then you know there's a bit to go yet on that front. I feel like the level of joker discourse and coverage prob screwed them over a bit though lol

i think ppl tend to have a hard on for tarantino, and this film wasn't too 'out there' like his others
I think there's a not unfounded view that the academy can tend to dish out awards if they feel somebody has been overlooked for a long time so you never know...
