Man, I keep saying I'll finish stuff the same week and then I end up doing it at the beginning of the next week. Let's finish off the top 10!

5. Europa Universalis IV: Guns, Drums and Steel - Ride Forth, Victoriously (Score: 810, previously 839)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO_UqoIDJO0
The sameyness throughout this song got old quick, but I still love the instrumentation enough to enjoy it when I'm in the right mood. Goosebumps when the solo voice comes in, and at the key change. Makes me feel like I'm part of the army charging into the final battle in a Hollywood epic! I guess I technically appreciate the song doing something different in the middle, but it was definitely the wrong kind of different! According to the comments, it really is just English played backwards that says "You shall retrieve those bowls, we never have changed the melody, but those who come, you will become something". Uhh, bowls?

4. Zwei!! - Final Battle ~Demon Lord Vesper~ (Score: 830, previously 829)

Better headphones definitely helped me get used to those high notes. This is a really great inspirational-sounding song with some very charming instrumentation; I would have a hard time trying to place what era the song was from without looking it up. The big drum rolls into cymbal crash during the main section are wonderful. Someone in the comments came to the video from WatchMojo's "Top 10 RPG Boss Battle Themes," which actually mentioned Zwei!!, Ys Origin, Ar Tonelico, and Trails in the Sky SC in its list! It also misspelled the game as "Zweii!"...

3. Kidou Sentai Iron Saga - Mechalullaby (Score: 830, previously 825)

I think this genre is called "music that plays over the speakers as you spend your day at the spa & massage centre". I had a hard time evaluating this song at first, because I couldn't really justify its appeal in the ways I usually do for music I enjoy. It really is just a great song to relax to and have playing in the background without evoking any particularly strong emotions. It's very easy to find myself lost in the pleasant sounds and instrumental layers before I find that the song's already over. It's also cool how it uses a principle of "voice as an instrument," as in the lyrics and human element of the vocals don't matter as much as their texture and how they're filtered to blend with the rest of the song. Makes me wonder if I would like it less or more if the voice was replaced with some kind of synth.

2. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - Roer, the Industrial Metropolis (Score: 850, previously 841)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJyIZZRjzJc
Another relaxing song, but now with emotional elements that make it easier to determine why I like it. The beginning and 1:30 are really nice sections with pretty chords and melodies that evoke that vague nostalgia in me. I also don't really mind the harp anymore; it actually does a good job of adding to the magical feeling of new beginnings that I get from this song. Also I really appreciate that the loop just plays the first section again before fading out, ending at just the right spot for me.

1. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd - Looking Up at the Sky (Ending) (Score: 870, previously 878)

I'm really someone who should check out more Falcom music, huh? But the songs that showed up in VGMC and BOST weren't even as good as what I got from this topic! (maybe the best ones are all retired by now) This is another song for my long list of wistful ending themes, a VGM style I'm a sucker for. The singer does a great job of adding that emotional strain to her voice when she hits the high notes in the chorus. Instant goosebumps! The only place I get a bit bored is in the quiet section before the final chorus, but that just ends up adding to the anticipation for the finale! The phrase from 4:40 to 4:56 is probably my favourite moment from any song on this list; love the lyrics and fast-moving violins there.

Honourable Mentions: Voltaic Black Knight, Guile's Theme, Silver Bullet, Large & in Charge, Greenish Illusion

Thanks to everyone for sharing some cool songs with me! I found something to enjoy in each one and had fun being exposed to new kinds of music. The songs with 830+ will probably be added to my "favourite VGM" playlist. My initial idea was to do this as a warmup for an actual ranking topic, but I think I'm more comfortable with this short-form format so I'll probably keep rolling with it for next time. I still need to be careful about how my expectations influence how much I enjoy a song on the first listen - with enough time, I'll eventually discover all the things I like about a song, but it seems that I'll try harder to do so if I'm already expecting to like it versus when my expectations are low!

Here are the people responsible for the top 10! I guess NFUN is the winner, but I don't know what he gets for winning. I guess I'll be more inclined to consider VGMC noms when I see they're from him?
NFUN: 1, 2, 4
kaonashi1: 3, 9
azuarc: 5
Snake5555555555: 6
Baconus_Yum: 7
Murphiroth: 8
ZaziGuado: 10

I'll come back and share thoughts on the remaining queued songs as well; for now I'll just regroup them here so I remember what they are.
