Well maybe the most accurate way to put it is that black people aren't treated all that differently from other foreigners.

They do certainly act differently than they do with Japanese people though.

You're definitely not going to get things like police brutality, people assuming you're a thief, or taxi cabs refusing to stop for you.

But you might experience people being intimidated by you. Patronizing attitudes are common, and they love to tell you positive stereotypes that they have about whatever ethnicity or nationality you are.

The ugliest, most hateful kinds of bigotry are usually reserved for other east Asians actually. Koreans, Chinese, and Vietnamese. You have to be from those countries though. If your parents or ancestors are from one of these countries but you were born in the USA, they'll just see you as another American.
