I mean, it depends on what other systems you have and if you have a gaming computer with thousands of steam games.

If you do have such a computer, there are just so many games to play already. If you have both a ps4 + a computer, it gets to the rediculous levels, just for games that are VERY good but either free or super cheap at this point.

The switch meanwhile has the biggest selling point of making some games mobile that you can't play on the go any other way.

Zelda to me, plays just as well on the Wii U as the switch, for a fraction of the price.

Mario Odd is fun, but super short for the main game, and meh for the after game (For me). I finished the main game in a weekend, put in about 5-6 hours in post game, and then sold it (for what I paid for it due to gamepass from best buy) and returned the switch to best buy as well (for a full refund). This was when the switch first came out.

There were no other games that I was interested in out at the time(already owned zelda) and none coming out in the next 6 months. I found Mario ODD was the shortest of the games I have played, though quite fun for the duration.

Now there are more games, but many have also been ported (like octopath traveler), so I still don't really have a reason to get one (wish i did). You might have less games, and more genres you enjoy though.

You could get a used one, the old battery life ones are not too expensive, but i wouldn't really shell out $300 and then more for the games you want right now, unless you have a good 5+ that you really want on the system you can't play anyway.

Or if you are just dead out of games you wanna play, and you don't really have a mobile game system, and that is enough for you.

I didn't like Mario on the mobile screen, it was too small and hard to see things. So playing the lite seems pointless to me, although obviously some games would be better on that than mario was.

They also have a new Marvel game for it....which is.....ALMOST enough for me to get one. If they ever have a good sale, or I see someone selling one used for like $150 or something, I may pick it up, just to get the marvel game and a couple others.

But nope, I wouldn't suggest spending $400 + (for the system + games) right now. Too many good PC games coming out in the near future (cyber 2077, Balders Gate 3, Phantasy Star online 2 etc ).

My gaming docket is full already for the next 6 months, and who knows what will be announced by then. PS already announced for this year, so.......it's fairly likely we may see a new nintendo next year. I'm hoping they go VR with their next system as well, considering the fact that the Nintendo systems have been semi-VR (or at least having movement controls etc) so it's just a small jump...and I could see alot of nintendo mainstays being awesome in VR.

STar Fox, Metroid, Mario of course, Mario cart etc would all be awesome in VR, Nintendo also usually rocks the party game genre, and it would be nice to see it come back to being a leader in RPG games (Been so long) only in the VR arena now.

But yeah, I regret getting the Wii U, it was really a bad system (game wise), and I don't regret holding off on the Switch at all.
