Some kind of relative of mine actually wrote a book about my father's family tree back in the early nineties I believe, not long after I was born. He succeeded in tracing my family back to when we apparently first migrated from Germany to the Netherlands, which happened around 1500. It lists names, dates of birth, professions, addresses, major occurrences and most deaths too. Pretty darn interesting (to me).

All family members got a copy, including my very young self, but I haven't seen it in years. I think my dad has it lying around somewhere. I actually forgot all about this book until I read this topic, so thanks for reminding me, tc!
I'v been thinking about doing mine after watching Henry Louis Gates' "Finding Your Roots" and seeing the look on the faces of the people appearing in the show after finding out their roots weren't what they had perceived them to be. But I am a bit skeptical.
