I love saga but it looks like their games have a budget of twenty bucks
this is a weird point to make because the series has been on hiatus for 15 years and prior to this point had been primarily known for its elaborate art and music, while this new release received great care in its western release as square went out and hired 8-4 to translate it, a well-known gaming historian and saga fan to edit it, and voice actors to voice character battle cries.

It plays like a mobile game ported to consoles
and this is a weird point to make because it's not that at all? it's a handheld game that's now received a wider release, and the structure of it is very similar to other small-scale jrpgs released when it originally came out. i would genuinely like to know which mobile games have as in-depth a battle system as this, because if this is common then there are untold hidden gems available on phones.

scarlet grace plays a bit like bravely default crossed with divinity: original sin, although this comparison is reductive and it really does need to be played to be understood. each round you have a budget of points to spend on your actions as you queue up your choices for each character. you can see on the timeline when you and enemies will attack and what type of attack it is. different attacks will happen at different points on the timeline so you can change your strategy to set up chain attacks. it's really fast, responsive and a lot of fun.

scarlet grace is one of the best saga games and if anyone considers themselves a fan of the series they owe it to themselves to check it out. it's out for everything and is super cheap so there's no reason not to.
