A race to the bottom that results in absolut mediocrity, or rampant intellectual property theft from nations that actually strive to innovate. We're not talking about fire departments and roads here. We're talking about technological innovation. True ideological/authoritarian communism isn't actually sustainable without a capitalist society to steal from. That alone should be a pretty stern rebuke of the system in practice. Capitalists can incorporate some of the minor aspects of communist ideas, but it doesn't work out symmetrically for communists if capitalist systems disappeared overnight.
