I've tried a few times to like it. For one, the style having such tiny bricks really annoys me. Only having two directions to explore annoys me (though I guess it's more than that if you include down). The combat really annoys me. And nothing "clicks" when I try to suffer through it all. It's all irritation and no enjoyment.

The thing that bothers me most about it is that Minecraft is a game where creativity is rewarded and a lot of the appeal is coming up with things to do an interesting structures to design, but where there is also combat to act as a distraction if you want it (ie, if you're not just playing on Creative or Peaceful), and goals to pursue (fighting the Ender Dragon) if you need a purpose. But Terraria basically explicitly tells you what the goal is, and crafting/construction is almost entirely pointless except to further that goal, and combat is the main focus of pretty much everything.

So if you don't like the combat, or feel like the combat is pointless, it kind of renders the entire game crap. Building things is mostly just a means to an end and usually results in buildings that kind of look like garbage (and can start feeling more like a chore than something worth doing).

Minecraft is basically crafting with minor combat. Terraria is mostly combat with minor crafting. As much as people compare the two, they're very different games.
