((why are people so dumb when it comes to the history of this country)) No idea because America has used socialist ideals for a very long time. Handing out millions of acres of land to newly arriving poor penniless European immigrants out west (land they'd stolen from Native Americans) and redistributing it to the Europeans .... is socialism. FDR's New Deal programs (SS, FHA loans, Minimum Wage, Unemployment Insurance etc) were all done using socialist ideals.
