on every post about a change going live, there's always a line about how you can go back to the old style, if it's being kept, and where to find the option (always advanced settings, btw.)

I don't really feel like that's enough communication, because it's actually hard for more casual users to find the Announcements board if they don't already know where it is, or aren't checking it on a regular basis (and when they tend to post there after making changes, with no real advanced warning). And just saying you can change it back in your settings isn't necessarily helpful for everyone, when a more detailed explanation how can make things way easier (and which isn't even that difficult for them, because it's what people on the boards all wind up posting to other people anyway, which means it's just a case of Allen being a lazy fuck).

More open communication and clearer explanations would probably cut back on a lot of the negativity every time they make a change. Especially when every time it winds up resulting in like two dozen topics talking about how ugly everything looks or how terrible it is and complaining that they don't know how to turn it off.

if they did any other way of telling people how things were being changed, such as a notification on the header, or the old style of being told you have a moderation with it appearing above the board name, then everyone would complain, like they already do about anything.

By that logic, they should never do anything, ever, because no matter what they do people will always complain, and it isn't worth doing something if people are going to complain.

The thing is, if they're so bound and determined to try and give "the kids" what they want in a desperate attempt to draw new users to the site (which isn't really working), at the very least they should do as much as possible to try and minimize the degree of negative backlash, rather than just shrugging and assuming we'll sort it out ourselves. When they do the bare minimum, they kind of only have themselves to blame when it creates a culture of people hating every new change and constantly shit-talking how inept people running the site are.
