Y'see, later on it's very easy for cores to get severed and if you aren't good at using the tractor beam it's basically a loss. The higher the links, the more armour you have - but even without that, if a 2block gets one severed, you still have power linked to the rest of the ship (probably) --- "Salt cures Everything!"
