Had the graphics been accurate to r/l...this mage's corpse and his tank would have been sitting in an 8' deep crater. The only thing that would have been left would have been 2 pairs of smoking shoes at the bottom of the hole.

This of course, was an inconceivable damage stack just moments before. It's 4 hours until the weekly server maintenance. Half the team were SEA players, we farmed for an hour or 2 on a relatively quiet night, and thought nothing of the mage we killed's rants and raves in PM when someone had to pop up to town to dump vendor trash.

Fast forward to post-maintenance. I log in, and instead of finding myself in Varik in the tent I always logged out from, I find myself trapped in "no settings". A map the mods use to test things or for special events...I've been called to the principal's office, lol. About half the party I'd been in that night was already there. An hour or two passes and the entire party is there and we're laughing our asses off.

One of the lead mods pops in once we're all on and more or less demands to know how we one-shot one of the strongest mages in the game. He happened to be a mounted pally. He summons his mount, we go thru the 30 second set-up and blast him. We kill him, and his horse.

His only reaction is "What. The. Fuck?!" And we're teleported to town without a word.

The week goes on with the usual chatter and the entire rival faction murmurring about how we're hackers and cheats...despite merely exploiting an absurd imbalance in the skill sets.

We log in after the next weekly maintenance to find ourselves back in "no settings" fuck.

Once we're all on, the JP devs themselves log in to the N/A server to inform us that we've found a potentially game-breaking exploit that even the JP server hadn't figured out with a 2+ year head start and asked us nicely not to do that in nation wars, guild wars, and the siege battles.

Being the asshole I was, I made no promises, lol. It wasn't something they could really fix, they couldn't really stop us from doing it since it was totally legit using standard game mechanics, and damned if we were going to tell anyone how we did it that wasn't a GM in the game.

The game itself was dead within 6 months due to changing hands too many times and multiple mis-managed updates and such, but a few of us knew we'd basically outsmarted literally every other player in the world at the time and the devs themselves while half the party were the highest ranked players in their classes on the NA server and the other half were in the top 3 in their classes.
