Or, in other words, if you deduct the cost of a nanny from your own paycheck... that's how much you are actually making by not being with the kids. I've worked as a nanny, and the answer is alot usually. Many nannies make $10 an hour (often under the table) and others get even less but live in a room there etc. I was replacing a nanny who lived with the family I took care of in one case and they were NOT happy even paying $10 an hour. Meanwhile quite often both parents are making significant amounts. Nobody is hiring a nanny to watch kids if they are making $15 or less an hour. The mom for instance worked at IBM and the dad was in charge of a salmon factory. Both made well over 50k a year. And it's not THAT long that you need them, unless you keep popping out kids, once your youngest heads to preschool, you don't really need one anymore (there are programs for after/before school....I've worked at them as well (and they are much cheaper then a nanny). --- Zangulus "I try to avoid having any knowledge at all of his dick."
