well yes, "say mean things about immigrants but do absolutely nothing to stop them from coming" is the stupidest of all possible strategies

and that's what Trump and his advisers are going with

of course, the notion that if only you stop saying mean things about them they'll vote for you over the party that is promising them shitloads of free stuff has been proven wrong again and again my McCain, Romney, et al.

so the only strategy that remains is "actually stop them" which has not yet been tried
