They says homosexuality is a sin and don't condone it, but are willing to accept those who are gay. "Hate the sin, not the sinner" really isn't all that contradictory. It just means they view you as confused and wrong rather than a monster, and hope that God will see fit to help you mend your ways someday. Or at least forgive you for them. It's sort of the difference between "tolerance" and "acceptance", which is a concept the Internet as a whole has trouble with. You can disagree with someone and not immediately condemn everything about them or crusade against them.
