since the enemies here are weak I decide to practice my Blitzes.

aw hell yeah I got rising phoenix to work, and it's awesome. I hope this is boosted by magic attack as well, because I'm using the double Earring set up on Sabin right now.

and hey, Figaro Castle is back!

Sabin decides to go off and explore on his own. some guy tells me that a flaming cat went flying through the sky to the mountains to the west. looks like I am going the right way.

picked up Flash and Drill even though Edgar is not with me right now. and... okay, now I might be running a little low on gold. maybe I should not have spent it all on stuff I don't know if I need or not!

the guy in the library tells me that this castle might be able to dig under the mountains and get us over there more quickly, so I go search for the man in charge of moving the castle around. and so now we're in Kohlingen! well, getting here was easier than expected. time to go find Terra!

the people in Kohlingen tell me that the creature made of light went south, to jidoor.

of course I can't just leave it at that! I need to go explore kohlingen.

and man, am I glad I did. there is so much going on here. more context for the world, the characters, the setting. DEEP LORE. by the way, to remark on something that happened above, I like how Sabin just randomly leaves the party when you go to Figaro Castle, and then rejoins when you leave. it's such a minor detail that impacts nothing and didn't need to be included, but it adds that nice little extra spice to the game -- which is something that FF6 excels at.

similarly there's a hyperactive daughter and her mother here in the village who apparently had a more close encounter with Terra. the daughter says that she wasn't scared of the light, and the mother says that she doesn't think it was a monster because it looked at her daughter with 'gentle eyes.' I feel like this is a nice way of letting us know that, whatever happened to Terra, she is still like... I mean, at the very least, she's not 100% a monster or something now.

next place I went was this house with some silly, obvious joke music BGM. so I assumed I was in for some shenanigans. I was not in for some shenanigans. instead, we got some tragic Locke backstory about how... I guess the spirit was ripped out of this woman he was in love with (Rachel?), and he needed to put her into a state of magical sleep so that she won't age or die. but he can't wake her back up until he gets a Legendary Treasure that can restore her soul.

once again, after this Locke scene, and the party leaves, Celes comes back on her own to look over the body again. she doesn't say much. but the fact that she went back is like a moment of silent characterization -- impacts nothing, didn't need to be added, wouldn't have even seen this extra bit if I didn't bring both celes AND locke -- but it adds that extra spice and I'm glad it was included.

when I investigated Rachel's house I got some more Locke tragic backstory.

also this guy on the west side of town did not have such an easy time as the mother and daughter. apparently terra obliterated his house... heh.

this one lady talks about how she wants to find a handsome man to take her on a date to the opera house south of jidoor. this really makes me wish I had brought edgar along, I wonder what he would have to say about this?

last thing I do is check the inn, where I run into my old friend shadow and man's best friend, the dog.

"leave me alone"

well alright then, nice catching up with you.

next is south to jidoor!
