That's also a pretty myopic viewpoint. Both conservatives and progressives are frequently guilty of ignoring inconvenient facts and ultimately both groups have what they believe are beneficial reasons for either changing things or leaving them as they are and to pretend otherwise is kind of embarrassingly disingenuous.


progressive changes are proposed because of the perceivedvalue of those changes, not change for the sake of change.

conservatives resist those changes due to an appeal to the value of tradition or norms.

Evaluating ideas by their merits is sensible. Appealing to tradition is less so.
