If you've attended a State University in the US, you likely are already being tracked, just not to this level.

I've been to a few university big data workshops, and they use your student ID card to track everything you do. Every time you swipe your ID to get into your dorm, to get lunch, to check out a library book, visit the wellness center, to get into a classroom building, etc, it goes into a large depository that is used for data analytics to trace your patterns. They've already begun studies to track student movements throughout the day with rate of college success.

One of the things I learned at these meetings is that this is such a new field, that there are not yet any guidelines in place to secure student privacy. It's a trial and error approach, and as students become even more connected (i.e. through university-sponsored apps), they'll be able to see even more of what you do.

How recent is this? Just curious because I went to college 15+ years ago >_> so I'm wondering if it was still applicable back then.

Really within the last year or two.

Ah okay. I'm safe then.
