In comparison of AEW and NXT, I have higher hopes for AEW. I've been waiting to post my thoughts, but here they are:

NXT put on a slapdash Takeover sans title changes. What was weird was the energy. Takeovers aren't built for two hours (really, 90 minutes), and the energy sank as the show went on. Each match lost the momentum of the opening match. I would have put a cruiserweight match at the start, although trying to grab as many eyes as possible was important.

Riddle is the absolute superstar on this roster. Cole did an admirable job, but it felt like Riddle stole the screen with every action. No one else measured up.

Wale really hurt the Street Profits. His hastily cobbled together rap was forced, went too long, was really just one line repeated over and over, and it felt uncomfortable and awkward. I found this to be one of the least interesting Street Profits matches in a while.

Big returns of Balor and Ciampa are exciting... but I would have at least saved one until next week. Burning them both in the same episode was not smart if you plan to actually contend with AEW for months or even years. Play a longer game.

On the AEW side, the tag is the thing. The Bucks and Omega were phenomenal, LAX did a great job, and Jericho running a gang of heels should be a good way to fill storyline time and prevent him from being overexposed. In terms of negatives, I think having a guy come out in a panda head in your first match looks pretty ridiculous. AEW needed a much more eye-popping opening match. Personally, I would have thrown in Darby Allin against Cody again, or at least open with PAC and Page and give them more back and forth.

Schiavone is super-underrated here. Great asset. The on-ramp interview was a great throwback to Nitro. Having the crowd react to these types of segments always makes them pop a bit more. To me, the first episode of Dynamite felt like a sample of regular weekly television, while NXT felt like a "pull out all the stops" desperation move. And when you feel desperation, you almost recoil a bit.

Overall, NXT had a better episode on Wednesday, but longterm, I still have more excitement for AEW,
