Real estate developer wants to build housing to meet demand in SF. Has to go in front of a local council. They deny him a permit to build. "This is gentrification, this is neoliberalism, you can't profit off of housing!"

You: "But what does the government have to do with a housing shortage????"

The problem with that argument is that the reason those people reject additional building permits is because many times they're doing what the investors want. They are bribed / controlled by the people who become immensely wealthy due to the housing scarcity there.
