Not really.

The reforestation was a big deal (and still is today)

And killing about 10% of the entire human population and replacing them with forest would probably still help the climate today.

I mean I think you're right in the sense that most pollution now is caused by big businsess, not communites.

but the general premise of "Kill everyone and leave forest in its wake" would still curb polution in the 21st century.

And I can't think of much else that can top that action. What other big climate change victory tops that?
