Rapping itself is not music. neither are lyrics nor the meanings behind those lyrics.

At some point you have to ask your 'what exactly is music'. If you are having a conversation with someone is that music?

I think most would say no.

Now is rapping legitimate art? Yea. But it's closer to conversation.

If you cant play something on an instrument, it's not music.
Playing a rap song on the piano would amount to hitting same key over and over to a beat
