Fairground parking ranges from $5 to $10 each day. My policy is whenever possible, say to hell with paid parking...so I've been eating at a local fast food restaurant each day for something between $2-$10 and then leaving my truck there after eating, hoping that counts as reason enough not to tow me.

That worked seven times in a row, and on the eighth day that changed.

I saw a flyer under my windshield wiper telling me I parked illegally and I need to talk to the manager about this right now. Well, I didn't like that...so I took a picture of my green snake looking at it, put the snake away, and then promptly went inside.

I don't really know how to expect this conversation to go. I thought about how funny it would be to deny the charge and insist I didn't go anywhere else with this snake on my face -- "Do I look like I went anywhere else?!" -- but I figured I'd just see what the deal was.

I ask for the manager and Melinda steps out. I ask what's up and she tells me I can't do that. I tell her I've eaten something here every day the past week and thought that'd be okay. She said she had passes if I had asked for one, but now she's gotta charge me five dollars. I don't know how legit it is to charge me in this scenario -- I thiiiiiink it's fine, but I don't know that -- but according to her this would have been a $54 charge if the police saw this parking incident first. Whatever, just settle the issue.

I pay Melinda $5 and then ask what they charge for a pass for future days. She says just come in and ask for one, but I have to do it before I leave each day.

Shout-outs to Melinda and her team's A+ hushpuppies.
