Then during the battle he kind of realized he was outmatched and there was no point in risking his life when he had already won the more important battle.Yeah, exactly. He tried to run away because after Yoda blasted him, he knew he was kind of in over his head. But Yoda stopped him and Palpatine was more like "fuck it, even if I lose, Vader will be more powerful anyway". If Obi Wan was there, he would have tried way harder to make an exit.
