Yeah I think Palpatine only accepted Yoda's challenge initially because he was still riding high on having achieved his ultimate victory. He tried to run away because after Yoda blasted him, he knew he was kind of in over his head. But Yoda stopped him and Palpatine was more like "fuck it, even if I lose, Vader will be more powerful anyway". If Obi Wan was there, he would have tried way harder to make an exit.
