I expressed this opinion already so I won't retread on it, since this isn't what this message is about anyway. It's simply related because yes, it's the catalyst for this decision. I'll be completely honest with you all; I often feel bullied in this contest. I feel that when it comes to curating each list of 100 that I often get bullied into making decisions I don't want to make and later regret. This isn't isolated to this, since I was once convinced to remove characters from the Royalty list because "they have no actual lands" (I'm referring to Jerry Lawler and King Booker). I later regretted this not only because certain users spent the better part of the contest saving Lawler, but because after I made the call, I realized I was wrong. I should have followed my own initial impressions; because this was my contest. So when he was first nominated, I dismissed Kirby because during the nominations cycle another user called into question the validity of his shapeshifting ability. I concurred at the time, even though I respectfully always ask that that sort of discussion be held to the end of the nomination process. I was immediately, without provocation, called biased and that was my real reason for disallowing Kirby into the contest. Combined with this, I was also accused of the same thing in regards to Pokemon. Despite being a fan of the series myself, I was accused of wanting to keep them out for my own selfish reasons. My reasoning for not wanting Pokemon in the contests anymore is simple; they aren't characters, they are species. I feel that in a character contest it's important to keep that true and pure. I feel the same way about what characters are nominated as well; they should ideally be trope defining characters who are unquestionably a shining example of whatever category they are in. I do not feel Kirby fits the bill here, not with what this category was meant to be in conception. Kirby has little in common with how Alucard, or most other characters in the field, shapeshift. He has nothing in common with my view of shapeshifting outside of some isolated things outside of his main series of games. This is why until this contest, every single winner of King of the Mountain could not be debated by any sensible person. Multiple people had questions as to Kirby's validity, not just one. The problem I am having with this contest is that it's one place where I am supposedly in charge of it. Yet I never feel this way. With other board contests, I disagree with how certain things are done (SMFFFC allowing Bravely Default, for example). Yet even in this contest I am bullied into letting things happen that I don't agree with, because if I don't let them happen I get accused of being unfair on purpose. On a personal level, I am unable to cope with such accusations without going to lengths that I don't wish to go to just to prove people wrong. So in essence, I am sick of that. I have been sick of that for a long, long time but the fact this contest ends with winner I feel does a disservice to what I wanted to create, and one I was forced into including through hostile means, I see little reason to keep on with it. The more I write, the less I want to even call this a hiatus. So thank you all for voting over the years, and if some day I want to bring this back perhaps I'll see you there. This is King of the Mountain, a standard Save My contest, saying goodbye.
