Rogue One took everything bad about the franchise and cut it out

They even cut out the character development.

It had great character development, it just wasn't super in your face about it.

It really didnt, but Id love to hear your case for it.

Take Jyn, lots of people site how nothing she is in the first conference room as evidence for lack of character, but the fact that she is basically a passive nothing in the first coference room scene and then she's making a case for action in the second one was a pretty clear example for the audience of "hey this character is different now"

It's like people wanted her to cartoonishly emote like rey does before they noticed her character.

The characters are more realistic than lots of star wars characters and so because their expressiveness isn't turned up to 11 some people didn't see it, but basically every character goes from some sort of conformity or cynicism to rebellion and optimism.

It's hope in the face of bad odds, and not the BS bad odds that the OT deals with where luck saves the day, no this time when the robot says There is a ninety-seven point six percent chance of failure." the percentages matter.

Not everybody can be han solo and luke skywaker, there is a whole universe of people who aren't protected by plot armor whose desperate plays will likely get them killed, and since the stakes are real for those people their commitment to try in the face of that is IMO so much more compelling and impressive.
