This has led me to the thought that you could pretty easily run around collecting good pieces off the curbs, and grabbing the great deals at yard sales, and then sell them on facebook/offer up etc for a significant profit.

My SO does this. He buys things super cheap and sell them for a lot. Most people don't know the prices of the stuff. He got some kind of table or desk or something for like $20-30. And it was worth $2,500 when he put it online. And then got this statue thing for free. It's worth like $3,000.

My SO used to live in an area that catered to a lot of college students. When they'd graduate and move away, they'd throw away a lot of their stuff. That's how he got most of his furniture and kitchenware.

Most of my furniture was either inherited from my grandparents, purchased on sale/clearance, was cheap IKEA-type stuff, or bought from Goodwill.

I know a lot of people that do that. College kids throw all kinds of stuff away. Though, more are selling it on facebook these days, as well...
