I had like no interest in Spiderverse, and a lot of that was because it was animated, I have to say. And then I watched it and it was great. I think a lot of people would share that experience.

Then there was the Oscar too. Its box office may have been low compared to others but it probably did tremendously well in terms of word of mouth and streaming, and you could expect the sequel to do much better as a result.

I dunno, it just seems like something that would embolden Sony here in general. They don't have mediocre/underperforming Garfield movies carrying the franchise now, as they were when they originally struck the deal. They have a potentially very successful franchise to work with.

I do get that there's still a discrepancy between live action and animated but maybe they think they can start to bridge that gap.
