This post is probably joking but Sonic R legit had some good ideas. The controls were janky, the racers werent balanced even a little bit, and you could blow through all the content in less than an hour on a first playthrough.

But! The level design showed a little bit of promise, given that I dont think a proper racing platformer had been done before, let alone a 3D one. The secrets and shortcuts were fun to find. Sonic Adventure 2s multiplayer was really fun years later. I think thered be merit in revisiting it.
