Always thought it was weird that they begin Infinity War with Dr Strange using a portal to cut a giant powerful villain's hand off.

And then never even mention or address the idea again for Thanos

Strange didn't cut anyone's hand off. Wong did, and Strange didn't see it.

Thanos is more durable than that dude and you can pretty safely assume it wouldn't work on Thanos.

How exactly would it not work? It wasn't a cutting spell it was a portal. If he closes the portal and his hand is in one place and his arm is in another, his hand isn't gonna just teleport back to his arm. He might be fast enough to pull it out though.

And either way Krillen solos everyone. This isn't the comics, everyone in the movies is super underpowered. Actually now that I think about it Wanda might be able to handle him, but only if she fucked with his brain before he realized they were fighting. Pretty much the stone powered people could beat him if he was completely unaware they were fighting. Like he wouldn't survive the snap. But he could easily get to Thanos before he snapped if he knew what would happen if he didn't. The episodes in the tournament of power are 20 minutes of action that take place over about a minute of actual time. So if it takes Thanos a half a second to snap his fingers, to Krillen it might be like 10 seconds of reaction time.
