Global warming (or to put it better, Climate Change, since its the AVERAGE temperature of the world's surface that is increasing, and not all locations will experience it the same) is a real thing, and no really, we need to do something about it.

Option 1 is, of course, to make some drastic changes to how we do things, so that we can stop the further increases of heat retention gasses in the atmosphere (and ideally, start bringing them down). It may not be much longer before we reach the point where this cannot be done unless we go into wartime economy mode so that governments can throw world war levels of resources at the problem.

Option 2 is to start properly preparing for it. Start building new levees, relocating or raising up coastal areas, and otherwise get going on steps that will make it so we can LET the world get 2 more meters of seawater and not worry about it. But this is ALSO a thing we need to START DOING NOW if we want to avoid the problem.

Yes, people mostly just talk about option 1 because it is the option that is nicer sounding, as it ties in nicely to saving rare animals and living in harmony with the planet. But option 2, even if it is a bit more "selfish" from a species standpoint, is still something that people need to start seriously talking about and doing. Otherwise, we will continue to see disaster after disaster where increasing storm strengths or new storm paths continue to cost trillions of dollars to cities on the coasts, to which about the only jobs that WON'T suffer would be construction, repair, and demolition companies.

The most practical course of action would really be a mix of the two for now anyway. Take steps so that we can at least limit the climate change from being too terribly extreme, and revamp our infrastructure, buildings, and coastal region development to be able to handle the stuff that will still happen.
