Temperatures in Alaska have hit record highs with the water being so warm that SALON are DYING in record numbers and if it continues, a climate researcher says the state could resemble IDAHO in the next 50 years!!

The unprecedented heat caused wildfire season to start early and sent walruses to shore as sea ice off its coast was at a record low, with a South Carolina size loss across the Arctic

Alaska's average temp in July was 58.1 degrees, that's 5.4F above average and 0.8F higher than the previous warmenst month of July 2004

The effects were felt from the Arctic Ocean to the world's largest temperate rainforest on Alaska's Panhandle

Anchorage hit 90F at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport where the previous high was 85F

Researchers said they should expect changes as forests to be in different locations and wildlife to move and plants to move and if they can't move fast enough, they will die

Unusual weather events like this will become more common with climate change and Alaska has seen multiple decades long increases as sea ice off the north and northwest shore and other arctic regions are melting

Arctic sea ice for July set a recordlow of 2.9 million square miles which is a South Carolina size loss of 30,900 below the previous record in 2012

Sea ice is the main habitat for polar ears and a resting platform for female walruses and their young

Scientists counted 850 dead unspawned salmon while on an expedition and nearly all the salmon they had found with beautiful eggs were DEAD from the heat stress

Quinn-Davidson said she'd never seen anything liekthis before and to see a large number of salmon die off is worrisome

The only silver lining for the heat is early crop season and flower season as residents are taking advantage of the warming.

Do you believe global warming is real?

Nah. Global warming doesn't exist. It's just fake news and the liberal agenda. We have clean coal anyways, so what's the point?

Global warming (or to put it better, Climate Change, since its the AVERAGE temperature of the world's surface that is increasing, and not all locations will experience it the same) is a real thing, and no really, we need to do something about it.

Option 1 is, of course, to make some drastic changes to how we do things, so that we can stop the further increases of heat retention gasses in the atmosphere (and ideally, start bringing them down). It may not be much longer before we reach the point where this cannot be done unless we go into wartime economy mode so that governments can throw world war levels of resources at the problem.

Option 2 is to start properly preparing for it. Start building new levees, relocating or raising up coastal areas, and otherwise get going on steps that will make it so we can LET the world get 2 more meters of seawater and not worry about it. But this is ALSO a thing we need to START DOING NOW if we want to avoid the problem.

Yes, people mostly just talk about option 1 because it is the option that is nicer sounding, as it ties in nicely to saving rare animals and living in harmony with the planet. But option 2, even if it is a bit more "selfish" from a species standpoint, is still something that people need to start seriously talking about and doing. Otherwise, we will continue to see disaster after disaster where increasing storm strengths or new storm paths continue to cost trillions of dollars to cities on the coasts, to which about the only jobs that WON'T suffer would be construction, repair, and demolition companies.

The most practical course of action would really be a mix of the two for now anyway. Take steps so that we can at least limit the climate change from being too terribly extreme, and revamp our infrastructure, buildings, and coastal region development to be able to handle the stuff that will still happen.

Pretty much Alaska is my last option if it gets too hot here in Washington....but by the time it gets too hot here, probably most of America will have decided to move to washington or Alaska as well.

Clearly not all of their salmon are dead, unless you're only counting what they catch and what washes up on their beaches.

Well the ice is melting and that obviously means that the low lying coastal cities are screwed. Theres no controversy about that. SMH

They just said goodbye to a glacier in Greenland; so global warming is definitely a serious problem. The Arctic is warming so much that polar bears are dying off; how long will it be before the Blob returns?

For those that are religious... didnt God say that the next time He feels like the earth needs to be destroyed He will use fire instead of water like He did the flood?

Also, do you think He will see you as a good follower by insuring the fulfillment of that prophecy or do you think He will judge you for being willfully stupid and reckless with other peoples lives?

Whether I or anyone else "believe" in climate change is irrelevant. It's a science-based phenomenon, not religious.
